Breaking: Daniel Alfredsson To Be Inducted Into The Hall Of Fame
Finally, after many years of hopes and prayers, the fans of the Ottawa Senators got what they wanted. The undisputed greatest player in Senators history will be inducted into the Hockey Hall of Fame. Alfredsson was announced to be inducted into the hall of fame alongside fellow greats Daniel and Henrik Sedin, Roberto Luongo, women’s player Riika Sallinen and builder Herb Carnegie.
Alfredsson ranks first all-time among Senators players in goals, assists, power-play goals, short-handed goals, and is second all-time in games played, a single game behind Chris Phillips.
He won the Calder Trophy in 1996, led his country to a World Championship Gold Medal, led the Senators to the Stanley Cup finals in 2006-07, and was the longest-serving captain in franchise history.
Alfredsson ranks 55th all-time in points in NHL history. He is also ranked 35th in era-adjusted points, ahead of many current hall of famers. This huge moment in Senators’ history comes after a fervent fan campaign to finally get their captain the recognition he deserves.
Alfie, as he was called, played 18 seasons in the NHL, 17 with the Senators and his final season in Detroit. He was the captain of the Senators for 13 of those seasons, one of the longest-serving captains in NHL history.
He is the first player to be inducted into the hall of fame as an Ottawa Senator. Dominik Hasek played a season for the Senators but played the bulk of his career in Detroit and Buffalo.
